A way to learn apart from school—that’s what CEO was for me. A place to grow without the usual constraints of a classroom. This unique environment brought me face-to-face with real-world challenges I never would’ve experienced in the halls of a typical high school—because this “class” has been anything but typical. From the very beginning, I thought, “This experience deserves to be savored,” and I’ve done just that.
Even when I inherited unexpected responsibilities or made an error in our balance sheet, I was constantly learning. I doubt many other high school classes give students the responsibility of managing the funds of a twenty-person business. Beyond being a powerful learning experience, CEO deeply influenced how I think. I no longer turn a blind eye to opportunity. Thanks to supporters like Kevin Bouse, I now see opportunity as an ever-abundant resource.
Over this year, I’ve become more approachable and resilient. CEO pushed me outside of my comfort zone and helped me build the confidence to introduce myself to anyone. It also strengthened my leadership skills. As class treasurer, I had to manage real responsibilities and stay ahead of deadlines—even stepping up to check in on others. I’ve learned that leadership isn’t about control; it’s about lifting others up with encouragement, patience, and respect.
CEO also changed the way I view entrepreneurship. What once seemed like a risky gamble now feels like a flexible, exciting path full of possibility. I now believe in the plentiful mentality: that opportunity is everywhere and that collaboration—not competition—is the true key to long-term success.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to bring these lessons into my future career in materials science and engineering. Entrepreneurship and small-town relationships will always be part of my story. CEO has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience—one I’ll carry with me forever.
