Understanding a Business Plan

Small Business Development Center

JoAnn DiMaggio-May, Director of SBDC SIUE

On Wednesday, the Belleville CEO class met with JoAnn DiMaggio-May. She helped the students understand the importance of creating a business plan outline. The students were informed on having ten key components into creating their business outlines including a title page, executive summary, the industry in which their business is in, the market and more!  As the students continue to brainstorm their personal businesses and with the help of Mrs. DiMaggio-May, the wish is to be successful and plan the correct way. Thank you, Mrs. DiMaggio-May, for this informational visit, the class hopes to see you again!

Super Bit Kicks

Neal Eilers, Owner

On Thursday, the class met with the Belleville East High School Photography teacher, Mr. Neal Eilers. Not only is he a teacher but he has a personal business in which made the class very excited to hear about. With the help of the online marketplace, Etsy, Mr. Eilers sells from his business named “Super Bit Kicks.” He prints on blank canvas shoes and t-shirts. These are one of a kind shoes and are amazing to see. Some of the students are heading in this direction with their personal businesses and Mr. Eilers’ business inspired them with many ideas. There is a passion behind what Mr. Eilers does and on behalf of the class we would like to thank him for sharing his business experience with us.

This week, the students had two days to work on their class business.  They were setting up their committees and committee chairs.  They are getting very close to announcing their event.

Alumni Spotlight Entries for this week

Joe Beussink

“I have been pretty busy here at Illinois State University.  I am enrolled as an International Business student and am currently learning Spanish and Chinese in my free time.  I am also a founding father of the Kappa Sigma chapter here at Illinois State and have been helping a friend with the financials of his business.

Regarding my business, I still have been working on Joe’s Candy Courier Service but I will probably shut it down.  I do have a few other ideas I’d like to purse as a business instead.”
