Fletcher's Kitchen & Tap
Derek Betz, Owner
On Tuesday morning, Belleville CEO met with Mr. Betz at his restaurant, Fletcher's Kitchen & Tap. He talked about how the rise to becoming your own boss can be a difficult road, but if you are always 100% committed, it will find its way to work in your favor. He warned us about the financial repercussions that can result from a misinformed decision in business and to always be cautious of a deal that seems too good to be true. Mr. Betz also reminded us to be aware of how dedicated your partners and employees are and to always have a firm grasp on who is willing to put as much of themselves into the business as you. He also spoke on the importance of contributing to the community and how your success should be measured on how much you give back to others. Hearing Mr. Betz speak about the lessons he has learned and the things he's come to value on his rise to success was very informative. Thank you, Mr. Betz.

On Wednesday, Belleville CEO met with Mrs. Amy Tarr from the Midland Institute for Entrepreneurship. Mrs. Tarr was a facilitator in Jasper County for three years before joining Midland. She told us about her experiences through her different careers and how they led her to where she is now. She talked to us about being in the CEO class and how it’s up to us to take advantage of the opportunities we are given in CEO; a class that only a small amount of students who gets to take. She explained what makes a good journal and that we should include our thoughts on the week’s activities, rather than just a recap, because our opinions and individual point of view as a student is what makes them interesting. Mrs. Tarr was a great speaker; she really made an effort to connect with the class and make us feel comfortable discussing things honestly. We greatly appreciate her taking the time to come talk to us, thank you Mrs. Tarr!
